TPTT partners with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) to offer two annual Māori student scholarships for tauira in their second or later year of an accounting qualification:
Ngā Raumanako Māori Scholarship supports tauira who can demonstrate how their study will contribute to the economic and financial wellbeing of hapū, iwi, or Māori communities.
Award: $5,000 + internship placement with a TPTT network partner, giving hands-on experience in an accounting environment.
Suzanne Spencer Memorial Māori Scholarship in memory of Suzanne Spencer (former NKMoA Deputy Chair), recognising leadership and service to Māori communities.
Award: $6,000 + mentoring support through the TPTT network, honouring Suzanne Spencer’s legacy of leadership and service to Māori communities.
These scholarships are jointly promoted by TPTT and CA ANZ each year; application windows and recipients are announced publicly. Scholarship applications open in July and close in September each year.
Outside of scholarships, TPTT recognises members who have “blazed the trail” for Māori in accounting and finance through the Hikatoa Award (ingoa gifted to the rōpū, acknowledging courage and leadership). In August 2021, NKMoA honoured Sir Hēnare Ngata — Aotearoa New Zealand’s first Māori public accountant (registered in 1949) — with the Hikatoa Award. Since then, recipients have included Phil Tane & Hinerangi Raumati-Tu’ua
TPTT also profiles contemporary Māori business and accounting leaders through our events and communications, reflecting the breadth of Māori excellence across governance and industry.
